ANALYTICAL WRITE-UP – DATA SET 2
The data set which refers to the importance of Education, and specifically female education, which, in our Human Development Model is also the prime source to enhance multiple capacities of human being. The data set talks about five different dimensions of human capacity i.e. ability to guide and help others; importance, trust and proper utilization of knowledge; capability to understand the real life stories in spite of imaginary and ghosts stories; convincing power and finally the newly emerging trends towards the importance to self esteem.
The data set highlights the importance of education and its impact on female comparing two ladies; an educated school girl and an uneducated married lady. A school girl seems confidently saying that she can guide others now as she is educated. In this connection my frame points out that education create capability to have a full control over social, political and material environment. I can feel that all this write-up revolves around my frame as the student is now empowered through education as neighbor use to approach her for writing letters to her husband who is in Army. She can sense the pain and helplessness of the lady because of unable to read and write. The student very confidently says that she knows, that pain will never happen to her and she will never have to experience those feelings, because now she has a control over her social and political life because of getting education. Similarly, for control over environment, the model emphasizes political and material aspects. The political aspect encompasses political and social infrastructures to have a say in the governance and to initiate developmental strategies. In this connection the write up intimates that the girl also involved for household calculations for her mother and grandfather as they were giving importance to her over her younger brother, who is perhaps an illiterate and working in a workshop. It shows a healthy trend of the society towards giving importance to female education as her brother is illiterate who works in a workshop while she is studying.
Likewise, material aspect entails effective and efficient allocation and utilization of available resources, while it further seeks to generate new resources. The write-up says that the girl’s grandfather asked her of a gift and she asked him for a book of stories. In her childhood her grandfather use to tell her imaginary and ghosts stories, but now she was telling the stories of real people, because she is literate and can read.
The write up shows that there was no trend of sending female students out of city for higher education in the area but use to get married in the early years. The student says that her uncle was against female education, and he wanted us to get married after matriculation, but when the girl exposed to education in school, now she thinks that she can convince others to do good things, like she and her cousin convinced their uncle to send her cousin to Karachi for nursing education. So, their uncle allowed her to get nursing education in Karachi and now she is so happy and serving the community. She further says that she also wants to become a nurse, which shows a societal motivation among female students towards nursing profession.
The last sentences of this write-up are connected to my frame which says about the initiatives to generate new resources as girl convinced by her teacher who told her that time has changed now and this is the time to play an active role in society and not the times of letting things happened to us but every individual must make things happened for her/himself and the best tool to do so is education.
